Enjoying the beach and the palm canyon. Preveli Beach is a nice one, mainly sandy, mixed with small pebbles. It's an undeveloped beach, no sunbeds, umbrellas, showers or bars here, only a small canteen with a toilet at the end of the beach. You find shade under the palm trees at the back of the beach, and there's a tiny lagoon, sometimes.

Preveli Beach is located in South Crete, directly adjacent to Rethymno (Crete's third largest city). If you are based in Chania or Heraklion, it's still possible to take a day trip to Preveli, but it requires a 1.5-hour drive each way. Agios Nikolaos is even further at 2.5 hours one-way.

Preveli Beach is a beautiful sheltered beach, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and palm forest. Of the three ways to reach Preveli Beach, arriving by boat is the easiest. The other two options involve either 470 steep steps from the parking lot or a hike and wade across a river—appropriate footwear is advisable either way.
